Las Lunas

Pasadena, CALIFORNIA

Built in 1947, Las Lunas is a Pasadena Cape Cod cottage reimagined for modern family life. What began as a phased remodel evolved into a full-home renovation, introducing a more functional layout and a stronger connection between the home’s primary spaces. Existing millwork and hardwood flooring were preserved and layered with quartzite, expressive wallcoverings, custom furnishings, and contemporary architectural details. The result is a refined transitional home that feels rooted in its history and renewed for its next chapter.

The former dining room was transformed into an intimate lounge with tailored seating and built-in storage, creating a relaxed transition into the main living spaces.

Relocated to the former living room, the new dining room activates an underused space and provides a generous setting for entertaining and large gatherings.

The kitchen was completely reconfigured around a long, centered island, improving circulation, preparation space, storage, and daily functionality. The island now serves as both a hardworking centerpiece and a natural gathering point for the family. Updated appliances, expanded cabinetry, and quartzite countertops bring a refined contemporary layer to the space while remaining respectful of the home’s original character.

A playful built-in banquette extends the kitchen’s storage and creates a comfortable setting for casual meals, homework, and everyday conversation.

Custom cabinetry and durable finishes transform the laundry room into an efficient, highly organized extension of the home’s overall design.

The new entry establishes the home’s architectural language through custom millwork, integrated storage, and a built-in bench designed for everyday arrivals.

The former hallway bathroom became a distinctive powder room defined by expressive materials, decorative lighting, and a more dramatic architectural character.

The completely reimagined primary suite introduced a new layout, thoughtfully designed bathroom and improved closet spaces. The suite provides greater comfort, privacy, and functionality while connected to the character of the original cottage, the space feels distinctly updated and suited to the clients’ daily routines.

An additional bathroom was integrated into one of the upstairs bedrooms, combining playful finishes with durable materials. Custom furniture and furnishings complete the youthful, adaptable space.

From the client

"Choosing Joseph Interiors for our project was one of the best decisions we made. His attention to detail, commitment to quality, and depth of knowledge were evident in everything he did. He was always available to answer questions or hop on a call whenever we needed guidance. The end result is our dream home. I genuinely love being here every single day, and I know our home wouldn't feel the way it does without JR's creativity, dedication, and expertise.
